Tranlation:
The mind cannot grasp the eternal Tao
and words cannot capture its essence.
Words can be used for their creative power,
though long ago things could existed before ever being named.
In wanting to define Tao we discover its manifestations.
When we stop trying to define Tao we can open ourselves to its mystery.
Both arise from the same source.
This is the gateway to all mysteries.
Interpolation
The true essence of Tao cannot be described in words – it can only be experienced. For example, words cannot describe the scent of a rose.
Tao energy is more subtle than our thoughts and the words we would use to describe it. When we open to Tao’s mysteries we are able to leave words behind.
We can harness words for their creative power in the physical world. The world as we know it could not exist without words.
Words are the proverbial finger pointing to the moon, but the finger is not the moon. Words can introduce us to Tao, but Tao is beyond words. |
