Hi fellow tao cultivators, About 10++ cultivators turned up for Ann’s session last Saturday. A summary of what we did: - arrival prayers, offering ceremony (ladies did the ceremony), discussion session led by Bernard and Ann:
1. There is no good or bad situation. We define good or bad ourselves and we can choose to be optimistic if we want to. We define heaven and hell. A tao cultivator can control his mood and not be affected by the environment. A trunk with knots is useless but turned out to survived longer than most trees (A blessing?). Ann also told a story: A farmer lost a horse one day. His neighbours gathered and told him he was unlucky and felt sad for him. A few days later, the horse came back with a few other horses. His neighbours gathered and told him he was lucky and felt happy for him. A few days later, his son ride on one of the horses; he fell and broke his leg. His neighbours gathered and told the farmer that he was unlucky and felt sorry for him. A few days later, the army came and force all young man to join the army. His son was spared because he was crippled. The neighbours gathered and felt happy for the farmer. How do you define good and bad situation? 2. We like to blame people for errors. Eg. A boat with people knock on your ship, you would blame the captain of the ship. If a ship with no people knock on your ship, who do you blame? Do we always find someone to blame for bad things that happened to us? 3. We always go for the best deal, eg getting the best product at the cheapest rate. What if we bought a product at a more expensive rate and realized later that it was too expensive? Do we felt cheated? Did our mood change? How easily are we affected by materialistic possession? We left the place with some points to ponder… - departure prayers, lunch Feel free to comment. Cheers, bernard |
